Gartner, Inc. is one of the leading worldwide information and technology research and advisory companies. According to the report, (Gartner Research: "Magic Quadrant for MSSPs, North America," Kelly M. Kavanagh and John Pescatore, November 29, 2010) the Magic Quadrant for Managed Security Service Providers (MSSP) provides Gartner’s analysis of which MSSPs and which security services can meet enterprise requirements.

The report covers a full array of topics such as market projections, marketing insights, and detailed information on the featured MSSPs. Nuspire Networks’ NuSecure managed security services were included in this year’s report, analyzed in the report was Nuspire’s target market, customer service, and sales programs. For the purposes of this research, Gartner defines "managed security services" as "the remote management or monitoring of IT security functions delivered via remote SOCs, not through personnel on-site."
According to the report, “in 2009, MSSPs in North America generated revenue of $1.8 billion, representing growth of 24% over 2008, while the number of firewalls and intrusion detection and prevention (IDP) devices under monitoring/management grew more than 20%. Growth in enterprise demand for MSS is driven primarily by four factors: staffing and budget constraints, evolving compliance reporting requirements, expansion of Internet connection points, and growing experience with remote services for IT.”
The report goes on to state, “increased enterprise use of software as a service and the ‘consumerization of IT’ will lead to more cloud-based security-as-a-service offerings, which will grow faster than the customer-premises-equipment- (CPE) focused MSSP market in 2010 and 2011. Gartner expects that there will be new security-as-a-service-based offerings addressing specific security controls and market segments, such as small and midsize businesses (SMBs), over the next two years."
