Nuspire is a global leader in the managed network security services industry.
What is the work environment like at your company?
It’s definitely fast paced and always changing. Sometimes you have to step back and look at all the great things we’ve achieved. We’re a growing company so we have the “work hard play hard mentality.” People are always busy here, however; we do make sure our employees share in the company’s successes and have some fun. We have a lot of fun and wacky events which are unique to Nuspire. The goal is to celebrate successes, get away from our desks, and make sure work is fun.
What’s a typical day like at your company?
We’re a global company, so I begin each day by getting a debriefing on what happened during overnight shift. I meet with the team managing our overseas accounts to find out what happened while I was sleeping.
Communicating with people from different departments is critical to our success. I speak to engineers from a technical perspective, PM leads for project statuses, and our sales team to see how our domestic and international partners are doing.
After that, it’s a lot of long and short term project planning. We’re a growing company with a good deal of new customers and projects. It’s an exciting time to be involved with all the great things happening at Nuspire.
I also spend a good deal of time hiring, recruiting, and sitting in on interviews. There is a strong emphasis on hiring the right people at Nuspire. We all spend a lot of time and energy in the hiring process, and not just in our own departments. Candidates interview with a myriad of different departments which means I spend a lot of time with prospective engineers, project managers, sales people and the like.
The final part of my day is spent meeting with various teams and working on different day to day tasks and planning for the night shift again. That being said a day is rarely typical at Nuspire. That is something myself and many of the team members enjoy about working here.
What is your favorite thing about the company?
My favorite thing about the company is the impact we all have. Every single person can see the influence they have on our customers, the organization, and what they’ve done to grow the company. It may be a program an employee puts in place that affects how people do their job, a new client the sales team brings on board, or a customer that an engineer helped. There is something cool happening here, you can feel it and being a part of it is special.
How did you get into this field?
I started out as an intern with Nuspire working out of my Michigan State University dorm room. Straight out of college I was hired into the marketing department and as the company grew so did my career. That’s not an unusual story here. That situation was the same for our level 3 engineering team lead. He started as an intern also.
We have a lot of organic growth within the company. So as you develop professionally the company will grow underneath you. Before you know it you’re tasked with doing something special and handing it off to someone that works for you.
When hiring, what characteristics do you look for in job seekers?
We look for people that are motivated, enthusiastic and really smart; someone who’s going to put in the time. We want individuals who have what it takes to succeed at the highest levels of the organization; people who are willing to work hard and put in more than a day’s work when needed. We look for people who want to grow with the company.
