Nuspire Networks recently attended MSPWorld Austin, one of the largest managed services and cloud computing events. This year’s MSPWorld conference focused a bevy of topics including: Managed Services Leadership for Executives; Managed Security; Cloud Infrastructure Development, Management, and Provisioning; and Managed Services NOC & Help Desk Proven Best Practices.
Clark Crain, Nuspire Senior Network Security Engineer (CISSP, CISM, QSA) was featured as a panellist in the “Managed Security Services in a Cloud World” discussion. The session explored the tools necessary to be competitive ,the various business models being used by MSPs, and the role cloud providers play in a managed security environment.
Crain has been a respected security professional for over twelve years. He has held a variety of positions including: IT Manager, Network Security Manager, Sr. Systems Engineer, and Information Security Architect. He has an extensive speaking history in the network security field and is a very active contributor to Nuspire Networks’ White Hat Labs; a consortium of industry leaders dedicated to the education and advancement of network security.
When asked about current trends in managed services Crain said “I see a growing trend in companies outsourcing some of their more mundane tasks in security like log monitoring. They are realizing that the people costs for 24/7/365 monitoring is prohibitive. This is reflected in all the latest reports and projections for the Managed Security Services industry.”
Market research firm Infonetics Research recently released its Managed Security Services and SaaS report which, analyzes and forecasts the market for security-as-a-service (SaaS) and CPE- as well as cloud-based security services managed by service providers for small, medium, and large businesses. One highlight of the report forecasted the growth of managed security services over the next three years.
According to the report, “Small and medium organizations are increasing their spending on managed security services, such that, by 2015, Infonetics expects medium and large business to spend the same amount on security services, and expects small organization spending to grow to more than ¼ of the global market.”
