Nuspire Networks (www.nuspire.com) recently attended an enterprise risk and security compliance symposium in Chicago, hosted by CAMP IT Conferences. The conference was an all-day event bringing together industry experts and top level IT managers for some of the largest companies in North America. The conference was divided into six specific subjects. Some examples include “Risk Reduction: How to Avoid Being the Next Data Breach Headline”, “How to Establish Effective Security Policies to Reduce Security Risks”, and “How to Modify Your Security Risk Program for Social Networking”.
Nuspire sent Clark Crain, Senior Network Engineer (CISSP, CISM), to contribute to the industry collective of experts. Clark has worked as a Security Professional for over 10 years. He has worked for global Fortune 100 companies and consulted with small to multinational organizations. Due to his extensive experience, CAMP IT asked Clark to be the moderator for the topic “Strategies for Aligning Security/Risk with the Business”. The goal of the panel discussion comprised of IT executives was to educate on the strategies that security specialists are leveraging to ensure their efforts are in sync with business priorities.
When asked about security trends in the industry today, Mr. Crain had this to say: "Security is all about managing risk. Companies can choose to defer remediation due to the risk being small or they can choose to mitigate the risk by creating a policy, or installing a hardware/software solution. The end result can be the same if the company doesn't educate their employees about the risk and how to handle it."
